Principal Software Engineering Manager - Microsoft

It starts with working back from the emerging needs of cloud information workers that need a fast, secure, and always connected experience to stay productive. We will create a new Windows experiencethat combines the speed and ease of use of the Web with the power of Windows 365 for more computeresources on demand.Our work will lead the next wave of cloud innovation for Windows, from defining a new hybrid app model that can scale from local to cloud compute, to building a Web-based shell with direct integration with Windows 365. The building blocks we create will chart a new direction for the experience and business model of Windows – from low-costPCs powered through advertising and subscriptions, to new direct-to-cloud hardware devices across work and life.

Our team is looking for an exceptionalEngineering Manager to build and lead a talented team of passionate engineers to deliver this vision. You willwork on innovativeWeb and cloud computing technologies to take new experiences from prototyping to production.You and your team will partner with Product Management and Design to ideate and build new experiencesaligned with the mission todrive cloud first experiences into Windows, create prototypes to validate early thinking, and use on-going customer data and research to validate our ideas. You will be responsible for defining architectures, engineering plans and processesin your team thatdrive quality and agility andmove the team from ideation to shipping.You will play akey leadership role in defining and promoting an inclusive team culture with the best engineering practices to deliver experiences with quality and customerlove.

• Manage a team of high performing engineers to design and build a new Web-based Shell for Windows.
• Partner with the Windows Incubation LT to create a team environment that promotes inclusion and collaboration. 
• Partner with Product Management and Design to deeply understanding customer needs. Define business, quality, and experience outcomes and goals that define what your team builds. 
• Demonstrate engineering excellence through commitment to quality execution, testing, maintainability, continuous improvement, and customer empathy.

• Lead recruiting and interviewing exceptional team members. Coach and provide feedback to your teamto grow their impact, skills, and careers. 
• Actively scope the work on your team, using team capabilities and skills to optimize what gets done. Useappropriate tradeoffs and embraces constraints to ship and deliver results.
• Effectively leads architectural reviews, planning and execution processes, creates robust engineering plans and prioritizes work across team members. Makes timely decisions to meet quality and shipping goals.
• Provide technical feedback in guidance to your team through architecture and code reviews, with a demonstrated commitment to learning and improvement. 
• Drive excellence in creating detailed execution plans and holding yourself and teamaccountable for delivering results. 

• Finds opportunities for collaboration across teams, works on cross-team commitments, and achieves scale by enabling the work of others across Microsoft. 

• BS degree in CS or related engineering field or equivalent experience/education.
• 5+ years of experience of building fast, high quality, high customer satisfaction experiences for the Web using HTML, CSS3, and Web frameworks (JavaScript/jQuery/TypeScript).
• 3+ years managing high performing engineering teams with hands on experience driving key design and architecture decisions. 

• Demonstrated hypothesis-driven, problem-solving approach to engineering through prototyping.
• Commitment to continued learning and demonstrated willingness to stay abreast of Web platformand programming advancements, including relevant Web and cloud development trends across the competitive landscape.
• Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills through all levels of the organization, technical and non‐technical. 
• Experience with open-source development technologies is a plus.
• Experience with virtualization technologies is a plus.
