Principal Lead Software Engineer - Viva (OKR Saas Solution) - Microsoft

The Team and Product:

Microsoft is embarking on a new effort to address the growing needs of employees around the world. We are building the Microsoft Viva product suite to address the fundamental shift in how people work, build their career, and find meaning in their workplace. Ally.io has joined Microsoft through a recent acquisition to become a core pillar (Viva Goals) in the Microsoft Viva suite. Viva Goals is a category-leading OKR SaaS solution that helps drive accountability, transparency, and alignment on goals across organizations.

The role and function:

Viva Goals is seeking a Principal Engineering Leaderswho will focus on building software applications that scale well.As a Lead principal engineerand architect you will closely work across core services in Substrate and Viva. You will work closely with other engineers, managers, product, design and operations teams to create solutions that meet business requirements. You will drive engineering and operational excellence across Viva Goals. You will collaborate with other engineers to surface common pain points, develop solutions and evangelize best practices across Viva. You will also support, mentor and help other engineers in the team.

The Hiring Location:

We are hiring in the following locations: Redmond, Atlanta, and fully remote within the US. This team is primarily located in Redmond, WA and remote within the US.

Key Responsibilities: 

• You will play a significant architect role in shaping up services across Viva Goals and components across shared platform
• Ensure availability, latency, scalability needs addressed by engineering reliability into software and systems.
• Focus on operability of the service including security, privacy, resiliency, Business Continuity & disaster recovery.
• You understand both technology and business to know the right tradeoffs to make.
• You will work closely with your peers, managers, product, design and operations teams to create solutions that meet business requirements.
• You will drive engineering and operational excellence across Viva Goals
• You will collaborate with other engineers to surface common pain points, develop solutions and evangelize best practices.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline OR equivalent experience
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building customer-facing web and/or mobile applications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience architecting, building, and maintaining highly available services in a large service-oriented architecture (SOA).
• Exceptional coding abilities and experience with architectural patterns of large, high-scale applications.
• Full-stack developer with good proficiency in C#, JavaScript, Typescript, AngularJS, ReactJS, Ruby, RoR, HTML5, ExpressJS, CSS/SCSS, Linux.
• Excellence in software engineering practices, coding and solid foundation in data structures, algorithms with strong testing, debugging and analytical skills. 
• A passion for distributed systems and large-scale storage.
• Experience with distributed databases, transaction semantics/management, and indexing systems. 
• Experience with multi-threaded/parallel programming.
• Experience at many layers of the tech stack (native, web, service, UX, model, data).
• Open minded and thoughtful when making technology choices.
• Experience with existing M365 foundational technologies.
