PRINCIPAL GROUP ENGINEERING MANAGER - Microsoft

At Microsoft Payments, we believe the payment industry is undergoing significant disruption and we want you to help us extend our payments platform to bring new and innovative ways for customers to interact with our payments experiences.  The payments team sits in the Commerce and Ecosystems (C&E) organization and is the heart of all commerce activity at Microsoft such as Xbox, Office and Azure. We are looking for an experienced Data Engineering Leader to develop the data strategy to shape the next generation of fintech experiences and platform capabilities for Microsoft’s ecosystem of products. As a Data engineering lead, you will be responsible for designing and executing payment wide data architecture. You will set the stage for payments to be a data led organization and will align with product and cross functional teams, strategize, and define engagement models and surface areas to address and help us manage our business more effectively in terms of customer credit, enhance cart performance, improve our subscription churn rates, cash flow positions, collection and build predictive model for write off and make an impact to overall customer experiences, revenue realization and revenue risks. You will own all current payment data models and injection and output source.  By engaging and presenting you will ensure alignment and deliver Data and Knowledge Foundations.

This strategic role will be accountable for executing on data for 1P, 3P, Cash, liquidity position, payments strategy across all Microsoft product teams such as gaming, advertising, E&D, Azure, LinkedIn, HoloLens, and GitHub, along with Microsoft CELA and Finance. The ideal candidate has a successful track record working in data engineering roles that marry user experience, platform capabilities with requirements impacting an ecommerce platform. Customer empathy, outstanding communication, excellence in distilling ambiguity, FinTech/Fin Services or ecommerce, and running complex technical and business programs in parallel are must haves to be successful in this role that will be central around executing on an overall Microsoft Payments strategy that spans both consumer and commercial businesses.

Design and Data Preparation

• Oversees team efforts and design discussions for overall system architecture of entire solution that are deeply complex and often ambiguous; provides technical and people leadership to assure system architecture meets security and compliance requirements and expectations.
• Oversees cross-collaboration efforts to ensure data is prepared in a multi-functional approach; supports team in understanding key technologies and tools necessary for data exploration (e.g., structured query language [SQL], Python).
• Provides technical leadership for identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service or platform; leads identification of other teams and technologies that will be leveraged, how they will interact, and when one's system may provide support to others.

Coding/Modeling/Evaluation

• Identifies best practices and coding patterns and provides deep expertise on the coding and validation strategy; defines or reuses quality metrics, best practices, and coding patterns to ensure testable code.
• Develops new predictive and prescriptive models using advanced research techniques with a goal of productionalized solutions; directs the development of experimental methodologies, statistics, optimization, and probability theory for general purpose software and statistical packages.
• Oversees data and statistical analyses conducted across multiple teams working on a feature or system.

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
