Azure Data provides customers and partners across U.S. Federal Civilian, Department of Defense (DoD), and intelligence Community (IC) with data & analytics capabilities for critical national security and defense workloads. As a Software Engineer in Azure Synapse Analytics, you will have the opportunity to work on integrating our Intelligence Platform products with a set of experiences that are meant to simplify and accelerate time to value. Azure Synapse Analytics products enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data – structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. This opportunity will allow you be part of a team that builds reliable, highly scalable, and highly performing distributed systems for data analytics on Azure, which can scale to exabytes of data.You will also work on solving big-data problems, cloud services, storage, and with open-source software

The individual we seek will have experience as a US Government security clearance holder and subject matter expertise in integrating U.S. Government requirements (with specialized experience within the DoD) and is responsible for the successful readiness and compliance efforts in support of our US Government cloud initiatives.

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features or improvements to the reliability, scalability, supportability, and efficiency of your service.
  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
  • Engage in improving service deployment and testing processes by pitching, designing, and implementing automated tools and solutions.  
  • Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call for the Azure Secret / Top Secret cloud to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years  technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience: 
  • in Azure/AWS/Google Cloud services
  • PowerShell OR automation experience is particularly advantageous 
  • deploying production grade software or services, including designing and implementing solutions for platform and application layer telemetry and monitoring 

The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate U.S. Government clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.

Clearance Verification: This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.

Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of US Citizenship to meet federal government security requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years  technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years  technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Database experience desirable but not required.
  • Hands on experience in working with cloud, big data, machine learning, data science, and large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience with Big Data approaches and technologies including Hadoop, Cloudera utilities, Spark, Kafka, Hive, Oozie, Spark, HDFS, ADB, DeltaLake.
  • Experience coordinating resources across diverse teams to restore service and maintain SLA’s, ITIL certification is preferred.
