We are looking for a Principal Group Product Manager to join our US Government and Sovereign Engineering Delivery team to leverage customer feedback on product gaps and other demand signals to align company-wide engineering delivery to better serve this critical market. This is a unique opportunity for a driven individual who enjoys creating clarity from the ambiguous and helping others navigate through a fast-paced and ever-evolving engineering landscape. Candidates should be interested and capable of working closely with external customers as well as internal engineering teams across the company. This role will be responsible to lead a cross-functional group of Product Managers, identify and/or respond to specific requests that address un-met needs across our US Government and Sovereign-based customers. The individual must actively seek information and test assumptions, navigate within a highly matrixed environment, determine measures of success for operations, and lead others in scoping problems by identifying key issues, inputs, stakeholders, and outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of people development and product development and/or delivery across in a highly matrixed ecosystem. This individual will drive and coach teams to define business impact across the organization and track success for multiple program areas across divisions. This individual will communicate clearly via excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. This leader will provide strategic insights and leadership to help teams scale to meet the evolving demands of our US Government and Sovereign Cloud businesses and ensure teams engage partners to garner support for those program areas. This candidate will be expected to develop and manage various cross-Microsoft v-teams to deliver customer-segment specific solutions, and provide leadership and set strategy for response to relevant customer feedback from this customer segment. We're looking for an individual who can work independently to drive large, complex programs and solutions, and drive results across multiple organizations via strong cross-group collaboration skills. This candidate will drive business & technical conversations with development managers, partners, and customers.

  • Provides strategic direction to teams in identifying data-informed, long-term or overall solution-level investment opportunities, evaluating tradeoffs, and prioritizing investments in consultation with cross organizational partners for feature(s)/feature areas (e.g., product, service). Guides teams to determine features or experiences to prioritize in the roadmap that will support achievement of success criteria and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
  • Ensures teams engage with cross-functional internal partners, external partners, including early adopting customers, senior leadership, and other key stakeholders to gather input and garner support for product/service vision, strategy, and roadmap for feature(s)/feature areas. Provides thought leadership and is sought out to address questions and challenges from group managers and other leaders. Leads teams to collaborate to gain buy in and alignment. Secures buy in from senior leadership for product vision and strategy for feature(s)/feature areas (e.g., product, service). Drives teams to advocate for priorities and resources needed to deliver desired outcomes for multiple feature areas across divisional boundaries. Rallies teams around shared priorities. Balances listening and sharing of information to obtain alignment. Leads senior leadership to new product vision and strategies.
  • Drives and coaches teams to define the business impact across the organization, success criteria, and performance metrics (e.g., Objectives and Key Results [OKRs], Key Performance Indicators [KPIs] such as engagement, usage, acquisition, revenue, and in project features) of feature(s)/feature areas (e.g., product, service). Works with Software Engineering (SWE) and Hardware Engineering (HWE) to identify needed data and ensure needed telemetry is developed and obtains it responsibly and compliantly. Provides strategic knowledge to help teams deeply understand the cost of goods sold (COGS) of the feature(s)/feature area and the KPIs that will help improve profitability. Takes ownership of organization-level metric outcomes and drives team alignment around key criteria and performance metrics with Microsoft's goals. Determines the value of the feature(s)feature areas (e.g., product, service) to the business, aligns success criteria, and measures success. Ensures the ultimate goal is aligned for portfolios.
  • Coaches teams to leverage a deep understanding of the product architecture to design integrated scenarios. Leads teams to collaborate with others (e.g., Business Planning, Finance, Support, Customers, Product Marketing) to identify the potential customer base. Communicates product strategy to internal and external customers and builds consensus through multiple methods (e.g., conference presentations, collaboration with partner organizations).

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years people management experience

Security Screening Requirements: Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  

  • US Citizenship Verification
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years of experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years people management experience.

Product Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year.
