Within CO+I, the strategic Supply Chain team is responsible for establishing a supply chain that can meet the ever-growing Microsoft Cloud for our customers. We support a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-billion, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects and operations of those assets. We are looking to fill a critical role of Global Category Manager – Electrical Equipment.

Impact to Strategy, Demonstrate Success, Core Responsibilities

  • Category Vision and Strategy: Creates, communicates, and maintains global category visions and strategies based on business intelligence, Microsoft policies, and Microsoft-wide cross-functional buy-in from stakeholders.
  • Strategic Sourcing Alignment: Manages complex sourcing initiatives across large global cross-functional teams to reach strategic alignment with sourcing execution, while continuously re-evaluating and improving Microsoft procurement.
  • Negotiation Strategy: Develops negotiation strategies, organize procurement bid results, and then communicates complete strategy and results to senior management.
  • Supplier Selection: Oversees supplier selection and performance management. Ensures alignment to Microsoft business goals and policies.
  • Contracting: Understands industry contracting norms and Microsoft contracting requirements. Develop and manage contract and procurement strategies for construction services
  • Supplier Engagement: Proactively segments suppliers and utilizes engagement programs to improve performance and achieve business goals.
  • Continuous Improvement: always be seeking ways to streamline, automate, and simplify processes. This will include deployment of tools, proficiency in data analytics, and ability to work with IT groups to provide system requirements.

Able to Partner with Internal Engineering, Construction, Cost Management, Finance, Safety, Legal, Risk and other groups as needed, as well as external suppliers, industry groups, consultants

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance or related field AND 6+ years experience (including internships) in Data Science/Analytics, Finance, Project Management, Supply Chain, and/or Operations

         o OR Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance or related field AND 5+ years experience in Data Science/Analytics, Finance, Project Management, Supply Chain, and/or Operations

         o OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years’ post graduate construction/ supply chain/ procurement experience specifically with large complex Capital Projects OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 
  • Able to travel up to 25%, globally.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in a technical or financial or related field preferred.
  • Construction or Manufacturing Experience: Preference for experience on large-scale projects - sourcing, managing and administering contracts large strategic contracts of over $200+ Million
  • Commercial understanding and experience driving developing contractual on key categories (General Contractors, Mechanical & Electrical Equipment, Construction Services, Operations Services).
  • Knowledge of data center industry and experience managing a variety of project delivery methods - ability to lead a project team in defining risk and developing the appropriate contracting and compensation approach.
  • Drive to achieve results in midst of ambiguity and matrixed org.
  • Technical ability to write contracts, ability to set up sourcing plans and negotiation strategies and execute them.
  • Excellent communicator that can interact with diverse groups across organizational levels and ability to implement new processes and get buy in from a cross functional team.
  • Familiarity with common process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six-Sigma, etc.) and ability to facilitate change management.
  • Have a “sense of urgency” to issue resolution. Be able to Create clarity and deliver success focused on fairness and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Always be planning for the future and understand the importance of relationships inside the company and with our supply chain partners.
  • Experience in one or more key categories including Construction, Mechanical & Electrical Equipment manufacturing and/or Fabricated Structures
  • Global regional planning and development

Sourcing and Category Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.Learn more about base pay ranges and pay equity: https://careers.microsoft.com/us/en/us-corporate-pay
