Microsoft Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (CHIE) is one of the key teams powering this explosive growth. CHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions.
We are looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer on our development team. In this role, you will design and implement software components to enable and optimize the Azure fleet. You will help enable specialized acceleration device hardware and customized offloading hardware in our servers in partnership with multiple teams across Microsoft. The software components you deliver include system software and cloud services that monitor, deploy and maintain cutting edge acceleration hardware in the Azure fleet at massive scale. This will involve running high scale services with an always secure and livesite-first mindset.
Your experience in Cloud Service development will leverage your strong communication skills, agility, engineering mindset and knowledge of system and Cloud scale software.
This is a hybrid role.
- Rapid cloud scale deployment of code and monitoring of telemetry
- Design, develop and operate large scale,efficientand reliable cloud services
- Work on complex, mission critical solutions that involve multiple Azure Services and a high degree of collaboration
- Participate in on call coverage rotation, troubleshoot application issue and apply mitigations
- Drive continuous improvement on service quality and cogs efficiency
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Powershell, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience with system software and/ or operating system internals
- Experience building and shipping software for at least one product development cycle
- Experience developing and managing cloud or hyper scale services or infrastructure
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing using C#, Powershell, Python
- Understanding interaction of System Software, Hardware architecture and protocols
- Experience with agile project management methodology, test driven development
- Understanding of hardware and devices
- Familiarity with OS health and error reporting
- Ability to deal with ambiguity, prioritize multiple strategic and tactical options, and drive issues to closure
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
