Principal Group Engineering Manager - Microsoft

At Microsoft Payments, we believe the payment industry is undergoing significant disruption and we want you to help us extend our payments platform to bring new and innovative ways for customers to interact with our payments experiences. 

The payments team sits in the Commerce and Ecosystems (C&E) organization and is the heart of all commerce activity at Microsoft such as Xbox, Office and Azure. We are looking for an experienced Principal Engineering Leader for embedded finance strategy to shape the next generation of fintech experiences and platform capabilities for Microsoft’s ecosystem of products. As an engineering lead, you will be responsible for design and delivery of platform capabilities and providing technical leadership. You'll partner with product teams and other cross-functional partners, both internal and external partners to plan and prioritize a portfolio based on impact and drive strong execution. Additionally, you will help in designing a platform that continues to scale with Microsoft’s businesses.

Design

• Oversees team efforts and design discussions for overall system architecture of entire solution that are deeply complex and often ambiguous.
• Provides technical and people leadership to assure system architecture meets security and compliance requirements and expectations.
• Provides technical leadership for identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service or platform; leads identification of other teams and technologies that will be leveraged, how they will interact, and when one's system may provide support to others.
• Work on cutting edge Azure infrastructure to build our next generation solution
• Work closer with security engineers and infrastructure to implement the solution to protect customers' high value assets and create proactive monitoring and fight for attacks
• Work with product team to deliver innovative solutions to improve customers payment experience in various Microsoft E-Commerce portals
• Manage highly available distributed micro-services infrastructure hosted in highly secure cloud environment

Coding/Implement/Reliability and Supportability

• Identifies best practices and coding patterns and provides deep expertise on the coding and validation strategy; defines or reuses quality metrics, best practices, and coding patterns to ensure testable code.
• Provides technical and people leadership to assure that solutions are deployed in a safe manner and sets best practices.
• Oversees team and acts as an expert in design and integration and signs off on work of others across teams or multiple products on telemetry on systems and products system behavior, such as performance, reliability, availability, and utility to provide feedback on system, and implement safety mechanisms resulting in iterative feedback loops resulting in subsequent designs.
• Research and champions new trends in best practices and shares information with other engineers to reliably build code that is based on well- established methods while also applying best practices for new code development.

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• > 7+ years of relevant software design and development experience on the distributed system or service application
• > 7+ years of working with C# or Java or any language
• > 7+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping large-scale, high performance, scalable systems and services.

Preferred:

• A growth mindset that enables working in ambiguous environments and finding product market fit
• Ability to work on complex systems at scale by partnering closely with engineers to build products
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Expertise in Payments, Payments processing, financial services or Fintech
• Start-up experience at fast-growing, dynamic, technology company known for good product management discipline
