Microsoft Windows & Devices Software team is on a journey to create new experiences on the Windows platform. A fundamental part of our strategy is having desirable and powerful devices that enable the experiences people want. Creating these new experiences and devices involves close partnership between hardware engineers, software engineers, designers, and manufacturing, along with the various industry partners that closely collaborate to create industry defining firsts. The Windows Client team is seeking a talented software development engineer with a background in working across silicon, firmware, and OS to actively contribute to the software development for Windows and our silicon partners.  You will work with Independent Hardware Vendors (IHV), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) partners to ensure quality Windows experiences on first generation silicon platforms.  This position will be responsible for partnering closely with silicon architects, IHVs, Windows OS platform teams and Microsoft 365 app teams to deliver an end-to-end optimized device experience. 

Experience with the software lifecycle associated with device development and the interplay between software and hardware development and schedules will be important for this role. Key responsibilities include developing system-level firmware for embedded and on-SoC processing elements, kernel & user mode driver development, optimizing Windows OS components and driving performance, stability and feature enhancements aligned with silicon roadmaps. Required Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience
  • 3+ years of professional experience designing, developing software solutions
  • 1+ year of professional exposure to shipping products in a hardware-focused environment
  • The ability to demonstrate practical coding skills in C/C++

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
  • System-level experience working with and debugging hardware/firmware/software interaction – Ideally during board bring-up and subsequent updates.
  • Experience in collaborating with internal and external partners to understand their requirements and translating them into solutions
  • Understanding schematics, OS primitives: memory management, scheduling, interrupts, threading and ACPI is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of test automation and SOLID design principles
  • Experience with GIT, JTAG, JSON, Python, XML is highly desirable
  • Ability to quickly ramp-up on complex and unfamiliar code
